MGIC in the Community

“At the core of what drives this company is a desire to do what is right. One way we accomplish this is by serving as a responsible corporate citizen. By supporting local charities, MGIC works to help make Milwaukee a strong community.”

- Curt Culver, MGIC Chairman and CEO

Corporate Giving

In 2008, MGIC and its co-workers will donate nearly $1 million in financial contributions, countless volunteer hours and just-like-new computer equipment and software to local community organizations. Every year, the company lends its support to organizations whose causes emphasize health & social services, civic and community efforts, education, the arts and culture.

Below are just a few of the 250 causes and programs supported by the company and its co-workers:

  • United Way – MGIC co-workers donated more than $303,195 to United Way's 2007 campaign. Coupled with MGIC’s corporate gift, the total contribution amounted to more than $683,415.
  • United Performing Arts Fund – MGIC was designated as a Pacesetter Corporation for direct corporate and employee giving in 2005, supporting UPAF's professional performing arts groups and helping to make the arts accessible and affordable to all audiences.
  • Matching Gifts to Learning Institutions – MGIC matches, dollar-for-dollar, co-worker contributions to colleges or universities and high schools, up to $1,000 per school, $2,000 maximum annually.
  • Jeans Fund –On payday Fridays, co-workers contribute $2 each to the Jeans Fund in exchange for the comfort of wearing blue jeans to work that day. In 2007, contributions from co-workers added up to $13,100. With MGIC's match, $26,200 was divided among a list of nonprofits.
  • Technology Sharing Program – Each year, MGIC donates just-like-new computers and printers and software to nonprofit groups. In 2007, approximately 30 organizations received equipment refurbished and prepared to serve their individual needs.
  • Junior Achievement – Since 1994, MGIC co-workers have volunteered their time to teach children at a local elementary school about business. Using a project created by MGIC co-workers, the kids create books, and track their business plan, sales and profits using various software programs.
  • Channel 10/36 Auction – A long-time supporter of Milwaukee’s public television stations, MGIC co-workers volunteer to man phones to collect bids during the annual fundraiser. In addition, MGIC provides marketing support for other Channel 10/36 fundraising events.
